Soccer Shots

Gabe had his first day of Soccer Shots camp today. This is a very cool national program that pairs local soccer coaches w/ neighborhood pre-schools to build an interest in soccer while also emphasizing social, physical and emotional development. The kiddos have 8 35-minute sessions w/ their coaches.

This mama didn't do the greatest planning and scheduled a park playdate this morning that ran longer than expected. I had to wake both kids up to go to Soccer Shots, so I think Gabe was a little less active than he might have otherwise been. He still claims to have liked 'everything' about soccer, 'especially the goal kicking.'

Some drills to start practice. Coach Heather (in orange, from E-town College) was wonderful and has the patience of a saint.

Resting position to listen to new instructions. The little kid in the green Brasil jersey stole Gabe's ball 4 times (not that I was counting or anything). It was tough not to discipline him myself.

Gabe's big kick during their scrimmage. It was a great shot - unfortunately aimed out of bounds.

Running it in for some water.

Can you tell this child was sleepy?

I am certain that Gabe is the slowest dribbler I've ever seen. I like to think if it as him being especially deliberate about each kick he makes.

When Tim came home, Gabe was eager to tell him that 'the boys and girls all cheered for friends who made kicks.'

Gabe also told us - as we were playing outside as a family in the gorgeous weather - that mommy and Lily had to play together and Tim and Gabe had to play together b/c 'boys and girls don't mix in ball playing.'
