Having a Baby

We were one of the first of all our 'contemporary' friends to have a peanut. I often thought it would have been so nice to have another mommy friend to offer her wisdom about everything baby related - products, experiences, doctors, activities. For instance, it would have been great to hear that a Diaper Genie is a complete hunk of junk that in no way keeps you from having to deal with the smell of dirty diapers, or that there is no easy way to put them out of your sight single-handed while juggling a wiggly infant.

Though, in all fairness, I may not have listened. For my first born, I wanted all the products I saw on the Babies'R'Us registry suggestion list. And everything had to be brand new. There was no telling me that we could borrow the things Gabe would use for a month or two - he needed his own, top of the line, brand spanking new Fisher Price this, and Graco that. I don't judge other new mommies for being this way, too. I think we all are and that it's part of the process - and part of why the R'Us brand is staying in business despite a difficult economy.
