Ear Infections No More

It's been about 13 months since Gabe's surgery to remove his tonsils and adenoids and put tubes in both ears. He hasn't had a single ear infection in that time!! He also no longer snores like a bear. As far as we know, the tubes are still in place. The doctors said they would fall out on their own eventually, but as of his last appointment, they are still doing their thing.

Gabe is up to 80% hearing in his right ear. This is a big improvement over the 60% hearing prior to surgery. His left ear is still hovering around 65% and doctors don't expect that to change much. He is great at compensating for the hearing loss, and most who are in contact w/ him don't even realize it's there.

As it turns out, our insurance didn't cover the entire cost of the surgery. So while it only cost us $10 to have prenatal care and to deliver (via c-section!) Gabe - fixing his tonsils/adenoids/ears was $4,000. Our insurance considered the removal of the tonsils (only the tonsils, every thing else they covered) elective and therefore our responsibility. They only clued us in on this after the surgery. All money well spent, but crazy in the way that only our health care industry can be.
