Text Transfer DIY - Any Surface

Create a word document with the text you want to use.  Print to size for the surface you are transferring to.  I scored a great deal at Michael's this week on canvas, so I used a 12'x24' back-stapled canvas that I spray-painted cream.  I went to FedEx Kinko's to print an enlarged version of the 8.5x11 word doc.  They charge $.75 per square foot, so I spent $1.50 on the enlarged copy.

I taped my copy to the canvas and inserted a sheet of graphite paper (you could also use carbon paper) between the canvas and the copy.   Then I traced over all of my text using the tip of a mechanical pencil w/out any lead.  The harder you trace, the darker your lines will appear on the actual canvas.  Be sure to save your carbon or graphite paper as it can be used multiple times.

Next I filled in all the letters I'd traced using a Sharpie paint pen.  Love those things!  Depending on how steady your hand is and how dark you want your text to be, you may need to do two or three coats of paint.  I have a horribly unsteady hand so inevitably will need to do at least two coats every time.

When you're satisfied with the look of your piece, seal it using a spray finish or gloss.  It will help the piece resist fading and it will also be easier to clean it.

*We have been studying the idea of covenant within scripture.  While Tim and I are working on a new family covenant, I wanted something that G and L could relate to now.  The text above is what I came up with...  and what wonderful reminders for us all!
