I have no excuse for why this happened today - maybe b/c Gabe was up in the middle of the night and I was tired, maybe b/c I've been cutting back on Pepsi (and meat and sugar and all caffeine in support of Tim). Anyway it did.....
Lily-belle was a little bugger all day - ornery, combative, fussy, prone to temper-tantrums. When we sat down to dinner, all was calm. When it was time for special treat, I only gave her one chocolate bunny (from Stauffer's, delicious, thank you Gigi). She wanted two. Somehow, she and I became engrossed in a yelling match (I'm not proud folks, it had been a long day) over how much dessert she should be allowed to have. It went something like this:
Me: You get one, Lily!
L: Two bunnies!
Me: One bunny is all you get little lady!
L: Two bunnies!
Me: Gabe got one bunny, you get one bunny!
L: Two bunnies!
Me: You didn't even say please for the bunny you have!
L: (pause) Please two bunnies!
You get the gist.
I snapped out of it when I looked over and heard Tim cracking up and trying to hide his face. He shared the thought that she and I came across like the women on Jerry Springer, each so engrossed in yelling our own thoughts that we really didn't care what the other was yelling.
Lily is asleep upstairs now. Quiet and still, so very sweet. I am confident she knows how loved she is, and I can rest easy in the knowledge that come tomorrow morning, we will both start fresh, with no clear memory of today's actions. For this grace, which I believe is part of His grace, I am so thankful.
