Gabe began swimming lessons a few weeks ago at our local Y, which is fabulous and I highly recommend it. I'm not sure why I put off swim lessons for so long. They have classes for parents/children beginning as early as 6 months. Lily will be starting soon. I thought that Gabe might have some reservations, but I'm happy to say that he took to it like a fish to water!
His first class, Gabe struggled with following directions, preferring instead to repeatedly attempt to jump off the ledge of the pool (thank you, Nana!). By the second class - with some helpful reminders from dad - he was all ears to pay attention to his instructors.
No qualms about putting his head in or practicing blowing bubbles through his mouth/nose.
Doesn't he look so peaceful? Hard to tell that it is CRAZY loud inside the swim center.
I love all the equipment they use to keep the kids safe in the water. They varied the depth of the water they used through the 30 minute lesson. Here, Gabe is hanging like a champ in the deep end!
Shocker - the child LOVED jumping into the water.
Michael Phelps, he is not. Gabe is the slowest swimmer in his class... by far. He's got the moves and the concepts, but instead of looking ahead of him to focus on a destination, he prefers to act like Stevie Wonder looking all around/turning his neck. Here's hoping if he's ever in a situation that requires a quick swim, there is nothing to distract him!
