Lily's First Foods

Lily has been having a really difficult time getting used to 'solid' foods. We got the green light to begin at her 4-month check up. That was nearly two months ago, and we're still having trouble getting the food to stay in her mouth.

It seems she's still struggling with her tongue thrust issues - these would be the same issues that caused Nipple-gate 2009 (a story for another time, and not for the first time mom about to embark on breastfeeding adventures of her own).

Even if she's not getting the food down, she looks stinkin' cute while trying!

Lily after her first attempt at rice cereal. I mean really, who would want to swallow that? Much better to wear it like a shirt.

The pediatrician suggested moving from rice cereal to something with more flavor to see if that encouraged her to stop the tongue-thrust. He suggested peas, so we gave it a go. She was curious, but still not much swallowing going on.

At least she was happy about being forced to eat her veggies. This same night, Tim made Gabe sit at the table for about 30 extra minutes - until he ate a spoonful of plain brown rice.

Poor little girl has been trying to hard to eat her goods, we decided to reward her with a pancake - something I'm pretty sure Gabe wasn't allowed to have until he was over one. Notice how little actually stays in her mouth!
