I took Gabe and Lily to a fabulous new park near us today. It was colorful, big, and padded with that rubber track stuff so there was a little bit of bounce. Gabe loved it! We were there for over two hours. If I'm being honest, I got tired of being there after about 45 minutes, but he was in heaven. Stopping every so often for a necessary juice break.
There were slides of all colors coming off of the main structure at different angles. Perfect for my little man.
They padded the floor with the rubber to soften the ground for children with sensory disorders. The whole park is designed to cater to children with any or all disabilities. It was truly incredible.
All that being said...we happened upon the park during a day camp's visit. There were a lot of 5-8 years old running around, which normally wouldn't bother me in the slightest. But today, three little boys, probably about 5 or 6 years old, started following Gabe and calling him a midget and a baby. I assume they thought he was part of their camp, but incredibly small for his age. They were just so mean. Gabe was blissfully unaware, just having a great time and letting me distract him with random games and ideas. Me, on the other hand, I literally had to fight to keep myself from whooping those little boys. It broke my heart that they could be so cruel to a child they'd never even met, even more to MY child. You'd think, working in education, I would be more accustomed to it, but it still takes me by surprise. I wanted to ask their parent's name so I could craft a letter or something. Of course, they were there with high school age counselors who did absolutely nothing in terms of discipline. It was a GRRRRRR moment. And even though he had no idea, Gabe got a chocolate milkshake on the way home and an extra long snuggle and story time before his nap today.
